Algorand is a pure Proof of Stake protocol with open participation and fast transaction finality. Algorand is implementing an open-source public ledger utilizing the Byzantine Agreement message-passing protocol to reach consensus among network participants. The Algorand protocol is designed to be a blockchain based payments platform, aiming to leverage its high transaction throughput to become the preferred medium of exchange for billions of users.
Bison Trails is recommended by Algorand as a Preferred Provider node hosting service. Our proprietary automatic infrastructure scaling technology is approved by Algorand and significantly decreases our customer's costs while fully vesting their tokens. We test all software, infrastructure, and protocol upgrades on our own Relay and Participation nodes before pushing to our customers. We are intimately familiar with the protocol; we supported up to 15% of the Algorand testnet for 6+ months and continue to coordinate with the Algorand development team on load testing, protocol upgrades, and protocol documentation.

Types of Algorand Nodes
Participation Node
Participation nodes host one or more sets of participation keys and carry out Algorand’s consensus algorithm. They are non-archival, storing only as many blocks as necessary to ensure blockchain progress - approximately a day's worth.
Relay Node
Relay nodes are the backbone of the protocol, propagating transactions and blocks and facilitating blockchain syncs for new nodes joining the protocol. They are archival, storing the history of the Algorand blockchain.
